WWTP improvement
Most of the currently operating municipal treatment plants need improvement. In many cases WWTP is rather old and does not meet today requirements in respect to treatment quality, O&M labor costs, economic efficiency, possibility of re-use the treated water, sludge, other by-products and services.
ENGINEERING INSPECTION
Any upgrading project starts with comprehensive inspection of all treatment facilities, analysis of quantity and quality of influent raw sewage. Based on inspection results our specialists develop technical requirements for design of stage-by-stage rehabilitation and upgrading without stopping STP operation.
When necessary, we offer Client several options for upgrading or priority stages of improvement. At this project phase we develop together with Client the main project goals and tasks, and this phase is considered as crucial and effortful.
IMPROVEMENT TARGETS
As a rule, the basic targets of WWTP improvement project are described as follows:
- Upgrading of STP capacity without increase of its area;
- Upgrading of operation reliability; simplifying of operation and maintenance works;
- Process control automation;
- Improvement of treatment quality;
- Reduction of operation cost.
DESIGN
At the engineering design stage we develop the ways of implementation, following some main principles: to use the existing facilities to the highest extent possible; to minimize scope of civil works; to save capital costs; in other words, our aim is to avoid scattering of finance resources and to concentrate on the basic tasks.
We offer new process methods and equipment only when we are 100% sure of them. All our innovative improvement solutions are well tested, their efficiency is confirmed by practical
experience. For any new method we propose Client to test it on experimental unit.
PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION
At all project implementation stages, like design, supply of equipment, installation, testing and commissioning, we try to minimize Client’s risks. Our specialized teams participating in the project maintain permanent contact with Client’s respectful departments to ensure full transparency and continuous control over works.
ECOS professional experience gained from implementation of integrated improvement projects in Russia and abroad, its scientific and innovative potential make us absolutely confident together with our Client in successful performance and achievement of project goals and tasks.
SOME SUCCESS STORIES
Improvement of Al Jazeerah WWTP in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Client: Ministry of Water and Electricity
Al Jazeerah WWTP design capacity was 3000 m³/day, but actually it was receiving 5000 m³/day. Project goal was: to improve treated effluent quality for SS and BOD from 30 mg/l to 10 mg/l. It means that the target project efficiency was 67-70% with keeping WWTP capacity about 5000 m³/day.
ECOS offered the Client to make improving corrections in the process chart and to apply for the final treatment process ERSH-Anthracite Filters model AEF-60, specially designed by its engineers. After project fulfillment all targets were achieved even with better performance.
During 265 days of warranty operation average influent SS and BOD concentrations were 41 mg/l and 42 mg/l respectfully. Effluent concentrations did not exceed 9 mg/l for SS and 8.8 mg/l for BOD.
Thus, due to introduction of innovative process solution WWTP improvement works provided double result:
- Upgrading of treatment efficiency by more than 78%
- Upgrading of the capacity by 2000 m³/day (170%)
At the same time operation and maintenance cost increased by 0.03 USD/m³, or by 10% only.
